Knowledge is the treasure and Knowledge Management is the map.

An organizations knowledge is the great differentiator in a world full of copycats and clones. Companies need to create organizations with dedicated knowledge management programs in order to promote and sustain a culture of development. Organizations that are able to leverage their knowledge will flourish in a market where competitors are slashing prices to capture an audience’s attention.

Knowledge management programs promote the replication of best practices, eliminate unnecessary steps in a process, and drive down operation costs. Customers desire simplicity and satisfaction. Knowledge management promotes efficiency and provides transparency to deliver faster results and simpler solutions for clients. Continue Reading…

Yes, my parents took me snipe hunting.  My family used to live on 40 acres just south of Olathe, Kansas.  No, it was not a farm and no, we did not have crops, in case you are wondering.  When my parents first purchased the property it was completely overgrown with brush.  Almost every weekend we would drive out to the property and do some clean up work until eventually we had a driveway and a small area with a picnic table and chairs.  One night my parents asked me, my brother and sister if we wanted to go snipe hunting.  Of course we did! Snipes sound cool!  We only had one problem;  what is a snipe?“It’s a little bird that can’t fly.”   Continue Reading…

Society is bent on documenting and collecting information about everything.  Information is becoming more public and transparent at an incredible rate.  Thanks to social networking and the smart phone information is gathered and reported with a simple click.  And what happens when there is the slightest hurdle between us and the information we want? There are two types of people who show up in the office everyday.  The first is the Worker.  A Worker believes that she is compensated based on the contribution she makes to the company.  She arrives to work early to have her coffee, read the newspaper and digest how she will attack the day so that she can get started on time.  The polar opposite of the Worker and the second type is the Survivor.  The survivor shows up at 9:45 because that is when he is required to be in the building.  A Survivor believes he is paid for being present at work for 40 hours a week.  Continue Reading…

After talking to a few people with wildly different attitudes regarding the subject I have found the answer to our airline seating dilemma. The problem is that we currently punish people who are too large for the current seats. People are being forced to buy two seats, upgrade to first class, or torture themselves and their new neighbors by squeezing into a seat that is too small. We need a solution that does not punish people, but instead makes the flying community as a whole happier. Continue Reading…

Henry Ford created a production method that allowed each step of to be completed by almost anyone.  It is a genius concept.  When an employer can hire virtually anyone the supply of hungry applicants rises dramatically.   When the supply of workers is high and the demand for labor is low wages drop.  They drop a lot.

Somehow everything has been turned upside down.  The number of available jobs is dropping and the hungry applicants are multiplying.  With a new sense of competition in the marketplace, workers are broadening the scopes of their abilities.  People are raising the bar by eliminating weaknesses to become well rounded and average at everything. It’s never been easier to be an expert. Two words describe information’s current state. Those words are access and excess. Information is easy to obtain, but can be difficult to filter. You can search, find, and analyze with a few keystrokes and a click. Reviews are written every day for products and services before many of them are hitting shelves.  These reviews are pushing brands to improve and expand.  What does this mean for brands? Their loyalists are being killed everyday by the thousands. Continue Reading…

Very few people are satisfied with what they have. There is always a ‘more’ or ‘better’ out there and if we bite and scratch hard enough it can be ours. Worst of all, we think we deserve it.  Not many of us take the time to discover how to earn it. Continue Reading…

It is burned into our brains that everything happens for a reason.  That may be true, but does not mean we possess the knowledge to always know the reason.  As a species we constantly exaggerate our knowledge.  There are few things in life that are truly certain, however, we speak and argue with such conviction about why things happen or are the way they are. Continue Reading…
